GPU performance can it now Conquor the Database?

GPU programming gained ubiquity in 2010 with nearly all new super computing complexes introducing full or partial gpu solutions.

Now we are seeing the reach of GPU computing extending into other areas including the Database/Data Warehousing and Data Mining. In addition new conference has been launched including the first ADBIS workshop on GPUs In Databases September 19th, 2011, Vienna, Austria. The topics discussed include

  • GPUs in databases and data warehouses
    • join processing, data indexing, data aggregation, bulk query processing, analytical query processing
  • Data mining using GPUs
    • classification, frequent itemsets and association rules, frequent subgraphs, sequential patterns, clustering, social, networks mining
  • Stream processing
    • query processing in streaming databases, stream compression/decompression
