Microsoft tries to perk up their cloud offerings with Java

In an attempt to add some legitimacy to their lack luster cloud offering, Azure, Steve Ballmer in Microsoft’s Professional Developer keynote speech heaped praise on Java and outlined new supports for the platform in Azure.

From our perspective such an announcement should be treated with skepticism, especially with a lack of clarity from Oracle on the future direction of Java. Combined with a hostile attitude to the open source java community, perhaps this is a good time for Microsoft to be making overtures to the larger enterprise market.
